PROJECT DESCRIPTION
GWE were engaged to provide geotechnical investigation, civil design and construction monitoring services for a commercial development in central Ponsonby.
The project highlighted some significant constraints in engineering design with tight spaces, existing multi-storey commercial developments in close proximity to the development and busy streets.
Geotechnical investigation was undertaken using a small drilling rig to profile the depth .to bedrock and provide geotechnical design parameters to the Structural Engineer.
GWE was also responsible for civil design of the commercial development including assessment of the existing 3 waters services and extending the existing networks and providing new connections to the building. The intensification of development on the existing site required 3D modelling of all services to avoid clashes and provide a working solution.
GWE was retained for construction monitoring of the civil works and professional geotechnical advice during construction. The construction of the foundation solution, including 15 m deep piles with large diameters required close observation to ensure the stability of adjacent buildings.
