PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The former Franklin District Council purchased 13 hectares of land adjacent to the existing sports complex with the intention of developing a large-scale leisure, sports and recreation hub in the centre of Karaka.

The Karaka Sports Park Trust was established for the purposes of assisting with the expansion of the Park, the construction of a new Pavilion and generally fostering leisure, sport and recreation in the Karaka district.

Working closely with Auckland Council and Franklin Local Board and Papakura Local Board, Stage 1 of the development is now complete and concept plans and funding for the next two stages is being sought from council and outside providers.

GWE was commissioned to assist with the master planning of the complex and provide engineering design services.

The scope of this design included all park development outside the new Hub Building and included earthworks, drainage, carparking, court development, field development, landscaping, footpaths, walkways and completing the design documentation ready for tendering the physical works.

The next phase of the project will be tendering for and award of the highest priority civil works packages.  This has been put on hold due to a funding shortfall.
