PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Resource consents have recently been granted to undertake a substantial, high-quality, master planned residential development on a 1.4690ha site off 224 Great South Road.

“Rather than take the traditional pathway for the necessary consents, the client elected to seek a referral from the Minister for the Environment to an expert consenting panel under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Act 2020 (the FTCA)” says Colin Cranfield.

The Minister accepted that the purpose of the FTCA would be met by the Project and established an expert consenting panel to consider the application.

Through its deliberations the panel sought expert advice on a number of engineering matters and considered the project within the dual purpose of the FTCA and the Resource Management Act 1991 (the RMA). Being satisfied on all matters under the FTCA and the RMA the panel granted the resource consents, subject to conditions.

The proposed Ōmāhu development will comprise 237 apartments with a range of typologies, across 7 medium rise apartment buildings that will also incorporate a range of commercial/hospitality areas and be constructed around a central park and two pocket parks, all interconnected by laneways and mews.

The development will be constructed over a single level basement car park which will form the plaza areas for majority of the open space areas above.

GWE has so far provided services to the project in the disciplines of civil and geotechnical engineering, contaminated land and stormwater management.
