Progress engineered. Problems solved.

Residential Engineering
AND COMPLIANCE

We bring geotechnical, stormwater, wastewater, drinking water and environmental expertise together to make residential projects buildable, compliant and resilient from single homes and coastal redevelopments to lifestyle blocks and subdivisions.

Why GWE for residential projects

Integrated experts under one roof

geotech, water and environmental working as one team so risks are found early and solved once.

De-risked by design

rigorous investigations and evidence-based reporting that support consents, building approvals and long-term performance.

Calm in complexity

we’re known for stepping in when projects stall and clearing the path to delivery.

We make consenting simple

translating regulation into clear, practical solutions that keep your project moving

LIFT values in action

we Listen, Innovate, Follow Through and Team Up to deliver tangible results.

What we deliver for homeowners, project managers & architects

Geotechnical engineering for homes and sites

Site and subsurface investigations, stability and liquefaction assessments, foundation/retaining design, groundwater control and construction monitoring, giving your designer and builder the facts to proceed with confidence.

Onsite stormwater design

Flood risk assessments, hydrologic/hydraulic
modelling and on-site devices (detention, soakage,
quality treatment) with the reports councils expect.

Residential wastewater systems

End-to-end support for new builds, renovations, replacements and upgrades, site evaluation, system selection/sizing, design and consent/compliance documentation for reliable long-term performance.

Drinking water for rural & small communities

Source selection, treatment process/plant design, storage/distribution and Water Safety Plans aligned with NZ drinking-water standards.

Environmental & contaminated land

PSI/DSI investigations, risk assessment, remediation/action plans, validation reporting and certification work delivered by SQEP qualified scientists and aligned with the NES for contaminated soil.

How we de‑risk your residential project

Early intelligence

Feasibility scans and targeted investigations (geotech, stormwater, wastewater, contamination) to surface constraints before they cost you.

Essential reporting

Technical assessments that stand up to scrutiny: geotech, flood models, onsite stormwater/wastewater design reports, NES contamination reports and consent documentation.

Consent & compliance

Clear, defensible submissions that streamline resource/building approvals for residential properties.

Follow‑through

Construction observation, close‑out and certification to keep schedules on track.

This approach reflects our LIFT values, we do the hard work so your project doesn’t get harder

Featured residential projects

Coastal cliff-top residence:

a complex geotechnical solution due to property location (at the crest of a coastal cliff) and proposed development including excavation of a deep residential basement, up to two storeys in places.

Stanley Point residence:

large residential development required earthworks covering an area of 2,000 m2 to establish a stable building platform to support the large dwelling, swimming pool and surrounding built amenity and car parking areas.

Karekare Beach residence:

a steep site on sand not typically constituting a viable building site.  A suitable foundation system required for the site which included depths of loose sand in the order of 10 m in places. Machine drilled boreholes and detailed slope stability analysis informed foundation and slope stabilization design.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Do I need a geotechnical report for a new home or extension?
Most councils require geotechnical evidence for foundations, slopes and earthworks. Our reports give designers and councils the details they need.
What’s involved in onsite wastewater design?
A site/soil assessment, system sizing and a design report to meet health and environmental standards. We also support consents and upgrades/replacements.
Can you help with on‑site stormwater where networks are limited?
Yes, we model flood effects and design on-site attenuation/soakage with consent documentation for council approval.
What if my site is (or was) used for activities with contamination risk?
We complete PSI/DSI investigations and, if required, remediation and validation in line with the NES — our SQEP team certifies reports for council approval.
