GWE Consulting Ltd announces the recent appointment of Maria Johnson as its Water Sector Lead for the New Zealand market.
Maria is a member of the company’s leadership team and responsible for the growth and development of the water business as the sector embarks on significant reform. The reform, the recently passed Water Services Act, follows the Government Inquiry (December 2017) into the widespread and deadly outbreak of gastroenteritis in the Havelock North water supply in August 2016.
In her previous roles, Maria was Water Team Leader and Project Manager at Harrison Grierson and prior to that, Water Treatment Planner and Project Manager at Watercare Services Ltd.
At Harrison Grierson, Maria led the team of water engineers where she provided technical and project management leadership, developed business opportunities, reviewed and managed team operations in conjunction with the business sector leader and inspired productive performance within the culture of the business.

And, at Watercare, Maria was responsible for providing specialist engineering support to maintain contractual and legal obligations for the quality of water supplied to customers. This responsibility covered the whole water supply chain, from the water sources, to the treatment plants and in the distribution system.
Maria also managed the relationships between Watercare and the Ministry of Health (Drinking Water Assessors) and Watercare’s water quality monitoring programme in collaboration with Watercare Laboratory Services.
