GWE Consulting Engineers’ recent move to its new office in Takapuna was driven by recognising the business needs of talent attraction and retention and for competitive advantage

GWE Consulting Engineers’ recent move to its new office in Takapuna was driven by recognising the business needs of talent attraction and retention and for competitive advantage not by cost and maximising utilisation rates of office space, which has been the driver for a number of corporates in recent years. GWE’s technical director Colin Cranfield notes,

“This cost-driven approach has for many firms resulted in depersonalising the workspace, fragmented work teams and reduced efficiencies that have arguably cost businesses more than the savings made by higher rates of floor space utilisation”.

The Impact of Millennials on Work Space

In this digital age, all companies are to varying degrees technology companies and businesses once considered traditional need to design workspaces that recognise this revolution. Millennials will soon be the largest generation in the workforce and their lifestyles have blurred the boundaries between home, office and recreation. Acknowledging the needs of this emerging workforce was a big driver for GWE Consulting Engineers in the selection of and the way it fitted out its new office space.

Fostering Creativity in the Work Place

Happy and healthy employees are creative and productive employees. Providing a work environment that has easy accessibility from a range of transport options, great local amenity, team-based work environments, technology-enabled collaborative workspaces, quiet workspaces, plenty of natural light, good air quality and building facilities that support exercise are high on the list of expectations of a mobile workforce.

Getting the Balance Right

GWE’s Director, Gareth Williams summarises

“By integrating great location and superior building design with a thoughtful interior fit-out and technology options that support a workforce whose work/life boundaries are fast evaporating GWE Consulting Engineers has prepared itself well for its next stage of growth”.
